Hylaform®, Hylaform®Plus

Hylaform® and Hylaform® Plus are FDA-approved gel dermal fillers containing highly purified avian  hyaluronic acid.  Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance produced by the human body whose function is to retain water in skin tissue.  These fillers are used to diminish facial lines and wrinkles and enhance lips.

Hylaform® is injected into finer lines and wrinkles to smooth the skin and hydrate and lubricate the tissue beneath the surface. Hylaform® Plus is more concentrated and is intended for deeper lines and creases in the face.

Similar to Restylane®,  the HA dermal filler gels, Hylaform® and Hylaform® Plus, are injected just below the surface of the skin, where they attract moisture and restore volume to reduce or remove the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles. No skin test for allergies is required before administration. The effects of Hylaform® injections last for about 6-9 months.

Hydrafill®

Hydrafill® is a hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal filler first introduced in the UK in 2004 by Corneal, one of the largest producers of hyaluronic acid.  It is formulated with non-animal stabilized HA manufactured using a bacterial fermentation process.  Being non-animal, it does not require pre-testing for allergies.  It is distributed in the US by Inamed Aesthetics (now part of Allergan) and has been approved by the US FDA for cosmetic facial rejuvenation.

Is available in several formulations: Hydrafill® (for fine lines around the eyes and vertical lines above the upper lip); Hydrafill® 2 (for medium lines and creases around the mouth and for frown lines between the brows); Hydrafill® 3 (for deep creases around the mouth, for chin and cheek augmentations, and for enhancing the borders of the lips);® Softline (for lip definition, vertical lip lines, and forehead lines); and  Hydrafill® Softline Max (for deep nasolabial folds, lower cheek areas, chin and deep jaw lines). Hydrafill

Depending on the individual, the area treated, and the expertise used in placing the dermal filler, the effects last from 6 to 9 months.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy (or IPL Photorejuvenation)

This therapy is directing non-laser, pulses of light into specifically targeted skin cells using sophisticated high intensity pulsed light medical devices.  An advanced computer regulates the light pulse to a specific wavelength range which heats the targeted cells, blood vessel, or hair follicles damaging or otherwise destroying them.  Only the targeted cells are affected while the surrounding healthy or normal tissue is untouched.  Penetration depth and degree of heat is highly controlled, and in the hands of a skilled physician is a very accurate and effective skin rejuvenation therapy.

IPL therapy is used to remove spider and varicose veins, age spots, freckles, birthmarks and other discolorations, and to remove unwanted hair.

There are different machines for different levels or types of penetration.  For instance, PhotoDerm™ has the PhotoDerm VL (for vascular lesions) [VascuLight/MultiLight], PhotoDerm PL, (for pigmented lesions) or PhotoDerm HR (for hair removal).

Juvéderm®

Juvéderm® is an FDA-approved gel dermal filler containing biosynthesized, non-animal hyaluronic acid.  The hyaluronic acid in Juvéderm® is specially manufactured to form an especially smooth and malleable gel to ensure the most natural looking results. It has been decomstrated that  this filler is safe and effective for use on patients of all ages, skin types, and ethnicities.  Since the hyaluronic acid used is not of animal origin, no pre-testing is required.

Juvéderm® has a higher concentration of hyaluronic acid than Restylane®, so the effects can be expected to last longer.  It is available in four different formulations, all FDA approved, making it versatile for use on various types of creases and wrinkles.
